Filmmaking in the Streets: Politics and Documentaries

Our WIF July 14 Second Tuesday will explore what it takes to create content and speak truth from the streets of the BLM movement in Seattle. “Black June,” a first hand account of the Seattle Black Lives Matter Protests and life inside the Capital Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) currently in production by filmmakers LA China and Anthony Tackett, is a testament to the flexibility and dedication required by filmmakers to document the voices and stories emerging today from the outrage and backlash floodgate the public lynching of George Floyd broke open. What began as a weekend project, continues to grow and evolve through live feed journalism and daily documenting of the ever changing events documented by multiple videographers and citizen journalists, including our own Abie Ekenezer.

What does it take to capture the stories within and outside the protest lines, the daily marches and rallies, as our call to action grows?

Able Ekenezer hosts our discussion with:

Maria Marin aka LA China Influencer/Co-Director has taken to the streets daily to off set media and share the truth in real time.

Anthony Tackett Co-Director has been filming cinematic style and leading a collective of filmmakers who are dedicated to following the true story of our time.

Sherae Lascelles is a leading political activist, inspirational speaker and community organizer.

July’s TST provides insight into what is involved in being a documentary filmmaker while giving a voice to the current BLM movement and the socio/political climate.
